Drawing At Minack
Welcome to my website. Before showing you an example of some of my past and present work, I would like to firstly let you know a little about myself.

Following in my father's footsteps I have painted for most of my life. However, as a mature student I gained a distinction in Foundation Studies at Brunel College of Art and Design, Bristol and a first class honours degree in Fine Art at University College, Chichester.

On leaving full-time study I steadily built up a substantial portfolio in my studio in Hotwells, Bristol. I moved to Newlyn, Cornwall, in the year of the millennium when I participated in group shows within Cornwall and staged a few solo exhibitions.   In 2003 I joined Art Space Co-operative, on the Wharf, St. Ives.   Art Space is a seven member co-operative, open all year round with steadily changing exhibitions where my paintings have a permanent space for viewing.  Some of my work can be seen at the Square Gallery in St. Mawes where I display some of my larger canvases  and Wonderwall Gallery, Cirencester, where my work is featured in their annual show featuring the Art of Cornwall.

I also participate in winter art workshops and one to one mentoring. Please ring me on 01736 351937 for more details.

From time to time,  from my home in Newlyn,  I hold Open Studio, as well as in my studio overlooking Mounts Bay just above Newlyn Harbour. This is where I spend much of my time painting.  Commissions and studio visits are welcome.   I also lead art workshops.

As well as painting the coast and coves of West Penwith, I hold a great belief in the discipline of drawing and therefore regularly paint from the figure.

For the past four years I have visited the Luberon Valley in Provence and this has been the influence on a major body of work embracing the large plane trees of the Fontaine de Vaucluse

Well this is my news in brief. However, if you would like to know more about my work or details of future workshops, please give me a call on 01736 351937 or email annie@simogen.com I am happy to accept commissions and am never happier than painting en plein air.   Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy viewing my paintings at anniemetcalfe.com.

New Exhibition!

Look out for details of the first art exhibition at one of London's newest restaurants COAST at 119 Ablington Rd. NW1,  starting in May.

Art Space Gallery will feature as the restaurant's link with the art of St. Ives.   We look forward to an exciting opening exhibition.   As in Art Space, work will be regularly changed and along with my fellow Art Space members, look forward to this exciting new venture.   Good luck David Upton.

Festival of the Arts in Newlyn!

Watch out in local press, posters and Festival brochure, for this year's events, performances and exhibitions.   The Art Exhibition will again be held at Newlyn Art Gallery in early November.   Exciting new performances will be featured in dance, music and theatre and much much more.

Open Studios!

A chance to look at some of Newlyn's artists' studios in and around Newlyn during this year's Festival.

Bespoke Sci-Art Creativity!

Along with fellow artist and teacher Carole Carlile, we offer art workshops and projects working with schools and local youth groups in West Penwith.   With Carole's strong background in Science and my broad experience in two and three dimensional materials,  these projects can link with current school curriculum or can be tailor-made to suit local needs and interests.    For more details, please contact me by email annie@simogen.com

Keep tuned into this page as I will update regularly on forthcoming changes and events.
